The survey (Trans Lives 2025: Continuing to endure the UK’s hostile environment) was carried out between December 2024 and January 2025. It surveyed over 4000 trans people living in the UK.

Truly Horrific findings

The results show the stark nature of the growing anti-trans hostility and discrimination against those who are trans in the UK.

Trans Actual describe the findings as:

“Trans Lives 2025: The Hostile Environment, reiterates that rising anti-trans hatred is creating a hostile environment for trans people in the UK.

Major barriers to accessing healthcare and appropriate ID represent a failure of this Government to respect the fundamental rights of trans people.

In a UK survey of over 4,000 trans people, TransActual found that 99% say media coverage has harmed their mental health, 99% have heard politicians express transphobic views, and many have been refused non-transition healthcare simply for being trans.”

The survey reveals that a staggering “one in four trans people report being made homeless in their lifetime”. This is much higher than the UK National average for young people made homeless which is around one in sixty.

The following stats revealed in the study reflect the high level of trans discrimination and persecution in the UK.

Acording to the survey:

64% of respondents reported having avoided going to the GP, even if unwell.

56% of respondents felt more unsafe because their ID does not reflect their gender identity.

40% of respondents would like access to an ID that doesn’t list their gender.

One in four trans people report being made homeless during their lifetime.

It's worth noting that these results were recorded before the anti-trans Supreme Court ruling in April 2025.

The seriousness of these findings cannot be underestimated. Uk trans people are facing relentless hardship at the hands of the establishment and a co-ordinated attack by anti-trans hate groups backed up by mainstream media.
